Rio Ferdinand has questioned whether Graham Potter would take the job at Chelsea.
The former Manchester United and England defender told his YouTube channel FIVE today that the decision made no sense for him.
Potter is reportedly to speak to Chelsea about the vacancy left over after Thomas Tuchel was sacked today.
Ferdinand said: “He [Tuchel] has a win rate of 60%. Many managers would be happy about that. Chelsea have now set up their booth and said: ‘This is us now’. It’s a huge statement from (club owner) Todd Boehly and his new regime. It leads you to the point, where will they go? Do you have someone in line?
“The names that pop up in my What’s App groups – Pochettino, Potter, Zidane.
“Potter has done a fantastic job. I think he will be called with due respect by bigger clubs than Brighton. But would he take it? When he went to Brighton their style of football changed immediately.
“He has a clear identity. I think on the pitch he will be great in that regard.
“The question is can he handle the more experienced players? In terms of dealing with big players and egos, there is a core of young players who would warm to him immediately.
“Everyone who comes in now. You might think it’s a downgrade of Tuchel and his CV. He’s a real manager. All the players I speak to speak positively about him. He’s honest and direct. He’s clear on that , what he wants.” to play I can not understand it.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
