Rishi Sunak asks homeless man at shelter if he ‘works in the business’
Rishi Sunak was criticized after asking a homeless person at a shelter if he worked in business.
The Prime Minister can be seen serving breakfast in footage from his visit to a homeless shelter run by The Passage in London on Friday (December 23).
He is talking to a man named Dean who asked him Mr. Sunak: “Are you sorting the economy?”
The Prime Minister replied and said that was “exactly” what he was trying to do.
Afterwards, Dean said sorting the economy would be good for business, after which Mr. Sunak then asked, “Do you… work in the shop?”
“Are you sorting the economy?”

Dean replied, “No, I’m homeless. Actually, I’m homeless. But I am interested in business.”
Dean then said he was interested in business and prompted him Mr. Sunak to ask him what kind of deal.
When Dean Finance replied that prime minister said, “Actually, I used to work in finance.”
Mr. Sunak then asked, “Would you like to address that?”
“Yes, I wouldn’t mind. But I don’t know, I’d like to get through Christmas first,” Dean said.
Sunak criticized for speaking at homeless shelters
After the clip was shared on social media, Mr Sunak received some criticism, with Labor Deputy Leader Angela Rayner tweeting the video, calling it “excruciating”.
Another wrote: “Asking a homeless man if he works in the shop and what he’s up to for Christmas this weekend.

A few other people also found the conversation awkward, with one posting: “I’ve abridged and subtitled this so you don’t miss a single second of this agonizing exchange between a homeless man and a clueless one Rishi Sunak.”
Some also directed their disapproval at Mr Sunak shutting down a Twitter user who was labeled a “PR stunt”.
Another wrote: “Rishi Sunak, a millionaire serving food at a homeless shelter. The hypocrisy. A man who supported and helped implement policies that led to a rise in homelessness.”
