Rita Ora shed tears as she recounted her mother’s battle with cancer on The Voice Australia.
The 31-year-old singer is a judge on the Australian version of the talent show and she was particularly touched by Aleisha Gam’s hopeful family story, as the young woman revealed her mother had struggled with cancer in the past two years.
Rita explains how her mother Vera has been battling cancer, as she emotionally recounts memories of the difficult times she and her family went through. Explaining how she found it “really difficult” in the battle over her mother’s health, Rita wiped away tears.

“I know what it’s like to have that connection with a song, and then that memory is always associated with that song. My mother, she had cancer too,” she opened on the show. when praising Aleisha’s performance.
“When she went into therapy, and she lost all her hair and belongings, we were teenagers. It’s weird seeing your mom, like, not the superhero you always thought you were. Your mother will become. . “

Rita said she struggled to talk about it all.
She added: “Because you never think your parents are going to sort, like, fail in front of you, you know what I mean? And then you have to put them together. I It’s also something she talks about.
“She’s a survivor, but she’s very young, and I think it’s very important to have that memory with them. I just wanted to get that out of there. I’m not really talking about her mother. I’m like that. It’s really hard.”

Vera was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and had to have a mastectomy.
“I see these things saying check yourself for lumps but my mom doesn’t have lumps and she has a sharp pain, and she still goes to get checked,” explains Rita, “I did,” explains Rita. I did the BRCA test and the gene test myself and, luckily, I don’t have the genes. But I still check myself regularly. Genetically, my mother had no history of breast cancer before, but she still has it.”
