Rob Wells-led music technology startup ORFIUM acquires Japan-based content company Breaker INC

ORFIUM, a music technology startup led by Rob Wells, former global digital head of Universal Music Group, has acquired Breaker INC, a Tokyo-based advertising, marketing and content company.

ORFIUM develops technological solutions for the music and entertainment industry (record labels, publishers, CMOs, film companies, rights holders).

The company claims its products are “reinventing” how technology “discovers, dissects and tracks” the use of audio and visual catalogues.

Headquarters in Los Angeles and London ORFIUM also has an R&D team in Athens, Greece.

Breaker was founded in 2013 by Alan Swarts, former vice president at MTV/Viacom in Japan, and John Possman, co-founder of DFR Asia.

Founded as one of the first YouTube-centric companies in Japan, Breaker says it has since built a global influencer network, produced big-budget original content (including YouTube FanFest Japan and a YouTube Originals film), and launched social media accounts in the Has managed names of media and entertainment companies.

Breaker’s Board of Directors includes Shigeo Maruyama, ex-CEO of Sony Music Japan and ex-Chairman of Sony Computer Networks.
