Robert A Katz’s family has confirmed that the producer has passed away at the age of 79 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Robert A Katz has died aged 79 after battling lung cancer, his family has confirmed.

The Oscars – and the Emmy-nominated producer’s death were announced on Thursday.

He is known for projects like Gettysburg, Selena, and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge and is the co-founder of Esparza/Katz Productions with Moctesuma Esparza.

Selena was awarded the Imagen Award for Best Picture.

Katz and Esparza have worked on more than 20 projects together, including Phones, Granada, Gods and Heroes.

The production company has also been successful on the small screen, producing films like Rough Riders, starring Tom Berenger, and the HBO movie featuring Halle Berry’s Dorothy Dandridge.

He received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series titled Walkout.

He also received an Academy Award nomination for the 1987 short film Shoeshine.

Katz was inspired to become a filmmaker after becoming a dust pilot in Africa following his honorary discharge from the United States Marine Corps.

While working for the Marines as a jet pilot, he was sent to Israel in the 60s to help train the country’s Air Force.

He has produced more than 70 documentaries for French and American television channels on the topic of liberation wars in Africa.

He also became a pioneer in the home video market.

On her fitness projects, Katz has worked with the likes of Jane Fonda and Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as many others.

In addition to the film industry, Katz is also the founder of the medical education company Medcom Inc.

He is survived by his third wife Patricia Brown and his stepdaughter, Victoria Flores,. He also leaves behind two stepchildren, Skyler and Adysun, from a previous marriage to Pamela Katz.
