Robert Pattinson will curate a high-end contemporary art auction in New York, describing the opportunity as “a fun and engaging experience”.
The Batman star said his acting has made him appreciate the “connectivity” between the art forms and that the process has been “satisfying”.
He will curate the latest edition of Sotheby’s Rated Contemporary auction, which will take place later this month.
Pattinson selected an edit of six “superior works of art” from the sale that resonated with him personally and spoke to his own taste in art, according to Sotheby’s.
“Managing this group of paintings has been a really exciting process and an honor for me,” says Pattinson.
“To experience and dialogue with these works to my liking – and to place giants of 20th-century art alongside living artists – has been truly satisfying.
“As an actor, I’ve always felt a certain empathy between different art forms and being able to connect them — whether it’s a sculpture or a song or a performance. output, all at once.
“Acting made me realize that there is a connection between all art forms and it made the process of managing a sale such a fun and enjoyable experience for me.”
The casting selection spans a wide range of media, from sculpture to painting to collage, and combines established names with rising stars to present a kaleidoscopic vision of contemporary art. from the post-war period to the present day.

Among the auction’s highlights are a piece by Willem de Kooning, which is estimated to fetch between $1.8 and $2.5 million (£1.5 to £2.2 million), and the Wheel of Fortune. Richard Serra’s number 9 is estimated at $200,000 to $300,000 (£170,000) to $260,000).
The live auction will take place at Sotheby’s New York on September 30, with an exhibit being viewed from September 23 to 29.
