A deleted clip from the Batman blockbuster shows Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader battling Barry Keoghan’s Joker.
The Hollywood hit has been a huge hit since its release, and director Matt Reeves has kept his promise by sharing a deleted scene with fans of the superhero movie.
Footage, which was cut for pacing reasons, shows Batman visiting super-villain Joker in custody at Arkham Asylum as he tries to find out more information about superhero Riddler, played by Paul Dano. .
The Riddler is on his way to grisly killing in Gotham and Batman is eager to end the destruction, but the Joker has other intentions for their encounter.
The scene bears a resemblance to Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs when her character Clarice Starling visits Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lector as she tries to get his advice on other serial killers.
As Batman entered the scene, Joker commented, “It’s almost our anniversary, isn’t it?” in a nod to how the superhero helped put the villain behind bars in the first place.
Batman replies, “There’s a serial killer. I’d like your perspective,” but Joker isn’t ready to play ball right away as he looks through photos of Riddler’s crime scene.
Joker seems impressed by Riddler’s actions, commenting on his cuteness in puzzles. “It’s meticulous,” he said. “It’s like he’s been planning this all his life.”
But Joker commented that Ridder was just a guy “nobody wants to be someone”. He explains how the villain has “a vision”.
Joker bounces off Batman’s question about whether the attack was political and says, “Oh, no, no, no, this is very, very personal.”
He believes that Riddler’s actions are because he has been mistreated by people in the past and decides to make them his victims.
However, Joker refuses to reveal more when pressed by Batman and starts mischief.
“You know exactly how he thinks,” Joker assures Batman. “Have you read this file? You two have a lot in common – masked avengers!”
At the time of their meeting, Ridder deposed Gotham’s mayor and police commissioner, and when the scene ends, Joker shoots another mode in Batman’s direction.
“I think you don’t really care about his motives, whether he loves you or hates you,” he said. “I think somewhere, deep down, you’re just scared because you’re not sure he’s wrong, huh?”
And as he chuckles, Joker ends by saying, “You think they deserve it, don’t you? You think they deserve it!”
The final tense scene was cut from the final product, the film still nearly three hours long.
Director Matt believed the scene was simply unnecessary for the final version and said: “‘It’s one of those scenes where, given how complicated the story is, by removing it, it keeps the story. The story goes the way it should.”
