Moises Caicedo has been told he could be one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Now Roberto De Zerbi is trying to make the most of his talents.
Caicedo have another chance to impress when Albion take on champions Manchester City at the Etihad today (3pm CET).
De Zerbi optimized the midfield pairing of Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentina international revealed he was told to have at least 100 touches per game, as reported in The Argus this week.
De Zerbi said: “Caicedo improves the quality of his game so much.
“In your newspaper you compiled a statistic for Mac Allister’s ball touches.
“It’s the same for Caicedo.
“He almost tripled his ball contacts in one game.
“Caicedo could become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and in Europe for me.”
When asked what impresses him, De Zerbi said: “Caicedo is a top player with and without the ball.
“There are many players who are very good with the ball but are not so good without it in defensive spaces.
“Others in the defensive area are great, but there are some problems with the ball.
“I don’t see anything at Caicedo that isn’t at the highest level.
“And he’s only 20, he’s very young, so he can learn more and improve. He has no limits.”
Caicedo had 99 touches in Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat by Tottenham and 80 against Nottingham Forest, compared with 53 in the win over Leicester, the last game before the change in leadership.
