Roblox removed the “oof” sound when you die

ROBLOX has announced that it will remove the “Oof” sound effect from the game due to licensing issues.

A long-time staple of the online metagame Roblox, the “Oof” sound is a popular sound effect you can play when your character dies.

However, due to licensing issues, it was removed from the game and replaced with a “default” sound effect.

According to a report by The playerRoblox originally struck an agreement with Tommy Tallerico, CCO of Intellivision, who originally created the sound for the game Messiah.

The sound effect was previously sold as a microtransaction in the Roblox store for 100 Robux ($1/80p).

“Oof” was pulled from the store, presumably because Tallerico, as the creator, revoked the right to sell the sound.

Roblox has announced that it will continue to develop new sounds for players and will make some old sounds available again.

In a statement it said:

“Regarding sounds, due to a licensing issue, we have removed the ‘Oof’ sound from Roblox and created a replacement default sound that launches today (July 26).

“We plan to add a whole range of old and new sounds to our avatar shop in the future.

“Our roadmap includes the ability to add sounds by sourcing them directly from creators and licensors.

“Users will also be able to customize sounds for their avatars in the same way they customize clothing.”

This system would allow for more player-created gameplay within Roblox’s already user-centric environment.

It could indicate that if Roblox changes its system so that items and sounds are sold by the original creators and not the service, people like Tallerico will move towards selling their properties themselves.

It has not been made clear whether this change will result in higher profit margins for the developers or for the game.

While Roblox has said it will be making more announcements about changes to the store “coming soon,” we’re yet to know when they’ll go into effect.
