Grantchester star Robson Green says he would love to direct a movie version of the hit ITV series.
The 57-year-old, who plays DI Geordie Keating, has spoken ahead of the show’s seventh season, which begins next month.
He said that while he has “directed various projects in the past,” he has ruled out taking charge of a regular episode of Grantchester.
“In my view, it’s a young man’s game,” he admitted.
He also said that he’d love to be reunited with Soldier Soldier actor Jerome Flynn as a guest star on the ITV show.
“Jerome would be great to be in Grantchester, he’s a great actor,” he said.
Blue stars on the show alongside Tom Brittney as Grantchester’s Rev Will Davenport.
The latest series is set during the long hot summer of 1959 with the wedding season in full swing in the village of Grantchester, Cambridge-shire.
Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs Chap-man, Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Melissa Johns as Miss Scott and Bradley Hall as Larry Peters.
At the end of the final series, Keating’s wife Cathy packed him a bag and asked for some time apart.
Green reveals that Geordie was lost without a “family safety net” and had been living with Will at the parish.
He added: “There is a lot of scope for odd couple behaviour.
“Will is definitely Jack Lemmon and Geordie is Walter Matthau. Situation Geordie is loan sharking but he is a shadow of his former self.
“He was back square one and almost a bachelor again and realized he had to try to get Cathy back.
“The one person Geordie should seek advice from, whom he should not seek advice from, is Will.
“There’s a humorous irony that plays out throughout the film when Geordie offers Will’s relationship advice as his marriage falls apart.”
Grantchester Series 7, ITV, Friday 11th March, 9pm.
