The streets around Newcastle may have been hit hard by pedestrian traffic since the 160th edition of The Blaydon Races on Thursday, but it’s housed in a giant circus tent that makes history.

The inaugural Rock N Roll Circus has come to the city and plunged into the vast fields of the city’s Town Moor for a concert experience like no other that leaves fans wanting more.

Bringing the circus and the best music together under one roof – aka tents – put simply, it’s an obstacle course.

It just works.

This one-of-a-kind event is the brainchild of Ali O’Reilly and allows the usual respite between bands at gigs to be filled with mesmerizing performances by artists. aerial artists, stilts and fire dancers.

There is also a great variety of food shops and fortune tellers on offer on the outskirts of the main arena, so it’s safe to say that unique concepts can and should be here to stay.

On the main stage, the raving crowd enjoyed a night filled with quality tunes from local boy Andrew Cushin, Australian duo Confidence Man, independent royals The Charlatans and stellar captain Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Geordie chanter Cushin had a successful night, capturing the attention of a rapidly growing crowd with some impressive initial numbers, such as Memories.

The duo from Down Under stepped up next to give a special performance, showing they were real entertainers, before swapping places for Tim Burgess and his Charlatans bandmates, who never impress.

Of course, when the time came for the proud Mancunian Noel to grace the stage, the Geordie was ready to blow the roof over his big crest and special combination of his High Flying Birds songs and the The classic Oasis hit helped them do just that.

With his beloved crowd clapping every second, he couldn’t resist throwing a round of applause at the Toon fans in the crowd by dedicating a song to them – Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

In his blunt words, he describes it as the perfect song for them because they “will win it all!”

The circus-style staging is something music fans are sure to want to see more of, and it’s an emotion the repertoire resonates with backstage.

“We needed something like this to showcase the Northeast. It’s amazing,” Cushin said.

“It can only get bigger and better and it needs to come back. I’m buzzing.”

Gallagher also commended the setup and admitted that he was amazed by its beauty.

He then shared a few kind words for the North East audience, admitting: “The players at Newcastle are always great, aren’t they?”

Next up for the fun concept is another night in Toon on Saturday, which will be covered by The Libertines.

However, O’Reilly insists this is just the beginning of the idea.

She added: “The plan is to go bigger and pick it up and take it around the country like a circus, having artists at home at their location.”
