Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for Dolly Parton: Voters Will Decide If You’re In

Dolly Parton is still on this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees list, although the country star has requested to be removed because she didn’t “earn that right”.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said in a statement that, in practice, it is up to the voters to decide whether Parton is elected.
It said: “Dolly’s proposal, along with 16 other candidates for the class of 2022, was sent earlier this month to 1,200 of our general voting voters, the majority of whom are artists, for consideration. introduced at our ceremony.”
On Monday, Parton took to social media to “bow respectfully” to the process, saying she did not want to take votes from the remaining nominees.
Parton was not immediately available for comment on the hall’s decision.
She was shortlisted last month, along with first-time nominees Eminem, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran and A Tribe Called Quest.
Other artists and groups under consideration are Rage Against The Machine, Pat Benatar, Dionne Warwick, Carly Simon, Judas Priest, Beck, Kate Bush, DEVO, Eurythmics, Fela Kuti, MC5 and the New York Dolls.
Parton is most involved with country music and is in the Country Hall of Fame, but she has performed songs with a rock feel.
Artists who have made both the Rock Hall and the Country Hall of Fame include Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams and the Everly Brothers.

The organization on Thursday said there was plenty of room in the hall for artists who weren’t pure rockers.
“From its inception, rock ‘n’ roll has deep roots in rhythm & blues and country music. It is not defined by any one genre, but rather a sound that shakes youth culture,” the statement read.
“We admire Dolly’s outstanding talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
