Rocket League Sideswipe Season 3 is live, bringing 3-player and spectator modes

It’s a big day for auto soccer fans because today Sideswipe Season 3 comes to Rocket League. This new season comes with a new Battle Pass as well as new challenges as you would expect. However, a new spectator mode has been added alongside another threesome mode that you and two buds can jump into.

Volleyball mode is the victim for this new three-player mode, which allows two teams of three players to compete for a ball in the center of the new Longfield arena. Additionally, new offscreen ads have been added, making it less of a hassle to determine your teammates’ locations.

The new spectator mode is a gift for both those who are more competitive and others who would rather follow their friends’ games than get their hands dirty. However, this is only possible for private matches, so you need to assemble the drivers for a match in order to use this feature.

This is the third major update to the game since its release last November, and shows that planned support for this mobile spin-off is progressing at a pace approaching the breakneck speeds of the multitude of cars and vans in the game. Since then, it has been downloaded over 10 million times from the Google Play Store. At the pace of these updates, one can only wonder if the Psyonix team managed to keep a significant portion of this amazing number.

Rewards will be distributed among players for those who have performed exceptionally over the past season. All in all, it’s a substantial step towards Rocket League Sideswipe, which is slowly becoming as potent a game as its beloved predecessor. It would be nice to see this spectator mode expand beyond private play in the future and the range of modes continue to grow, but for now Season 3 offers a refreshing mix of the sideswipe experience for its embedded player base.
