Rod Serling considered his real-life experience for the Twilight Zone title

Serling served in World War II as an Army paratrooper. His experiences and trauma from his time in the war are reflected in the dark and moral tones of his writing. According to one Article in Smithsonian MagazineIt was from his skydiving days that he came up with the name “Twilight Zone”. The twilight zone is the time when the plane descends and the horizon is no longer visible.

After the show’s fifth season, it was canceled, although Serling would claim that the cancellation was a mutual agreement. He whines about the direction the network wants him to go in, wanting more realistic monsters and fewer allegories. He discussed this in the last interview of his life in 1975.

“I think you can speak more clearly within the framework of a contemporary work that is honest with Christ so that you don’t have to talk in allegory, in symbolism and the rest of it, but this is not the case. meaning you can ‘ Don’t take a socially critical stance by using sci-fi or fantasy as your setting. We’ve done that on ‘Twilight Zone’ a lot, but there’s no room left. for that subtlety too. The problems for us are so many that they have to be attacked directly.”

Besides trying and failing to make a movie, Serling was done with “The Twilight Zone” after it was cancelled. Despite this, he left a permanent mark on the American psyche and the entertainment industry. And a big part of that is the weird name he’s drawn from what could have been one of the darkest days of his life. Rod Serling considered his real-life experience for the Twilight Zone title
