The photo was shared by Penny after Rod stepped onto the stage at the Platinum Party at the Palace and sang Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline – leaving many in the audience baffled by his vocals.

“Can’t beat a bit Rod Stewart. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace” wrote a fifth person.

The day after his show, Rod said the BBC ‘made him sing Sweet Caroline to end his Platinum Jubilee show.

Fans noticed that the crooner sounded a bit off-putting when he sang Neil Diamond’s number, but the rocker told the 22,000-strong audience: “The BBC invited me to sing this.”

He even asked the crowd – which included Prince William and Kate – to “join, make me feel comfortable” as he began to follow the intrigue.

Overnight, some of the biggest names in the music industry were on hand to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Year, marking 70 years on the Queen’s throne.
