Roedische teachers sleep on the street for Off The Fence

THREE teachers have slept fitfully in Brighton at night to raise money for a charity for the city’s homeless, raising £1956 in the process.

Roedean teachers Suzie Sturgeon, Phil Halsey and Justine Crawley spent the night in boxes at York Place near St Peter’s Church last weekend (November 18) as part of charity Off The Fence’s annual Big Sleep Out.

The Big Sleep Out is an annual fundraising challenge for people to learn what life can be like for those who sleep poorly and to raise money to help them get off the streets and back on track for to achieve a normal life that the rest of us take for granted. Brighton and Hove is one of the cities with the highest percentage of rough sleepers in the UK.

This is the second year that the Big Sleep Out event has been held, which each participant pays £20 to attend and is supported by dozens of companies and supported by Hove MP Peter Kyle and Brighton Mayor Lizzie Deane. Last year it raised £34,000.

Suzie said: “This experience gave us the briefest snapshot of what homeless people go through every night and it was very powerful to hear the stories of people involved in Off The Fence.” Roedische teachers sleep on the street for Off The Fence
