Roller Champions, Ubisoft’s free-to-play PvP roller skating game, launches on May 25th
Roller Champions, the free-to-play PvP roller skating game born from the mind of Ubisoft, will be released on PlayStation, Xbox and PC via the Ubisoft Store 25. May. This news comes alongside a new theatrical trailer showcasing some of the characters in the fast-paced sports action game.
For those who would like to get their hands on the title but aren’t a fan of those particular platforms, the game will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, the Epic Games Store, Amazon Luna, and Stadia at a later date. The game will also feature crossplay and progression from launch, so you can switch platforms if you can’t decide on one.
The game is a three-on-three PvP title pitting two teams against each other in an arena. It’s a goal-oriented title, with both teams trying to score five points first to secure victory. You can grab the ball and play between your team or snatch it out of the opposing team’s arms by knocking them to the ground.
The thing about Roller Champions is that you can’t just run and score a goal once you’ve got the ball in your hands. You have to do a full lap around the arena before the opponent’s gate opens, which means you’ll be running around chasing other players once the game finally starts.
The game is, as you would expect, a live service title. That means it launches with a free Roller Pass with a range of cosmetics for your skater, as well as a Premium Pass with extra gear that you can’t purchase any other way. There’s also a skate park hub where you can hang out and show off your unique look to other like-minded players.
What do you think of Roller Champions? Do you think it has staying power given bigger live service titles currently available? Or do you think it will follow the path set by Hyperscape and numerous other games before it? Let us know below!
