Roman Abramovich insists claims of a U-turn on a £1.5billion Chelsea loan are false

Roman Abramovich has insisted his position on the Chelsea sale remains unchanged and has not asked for a loan repayment, arguing that such suggestions are wrong.

According to reports, Russian billionaire Abramovich, who was sanctioned by the UK government on March 10, could insist on his £1.5 billion loan being repaid, which could jeopardize the entire Premier League club sale process.

However, a spokesman for Abramovich said in a statement published on Chelsea’s website: “Firstly, Mr Abramovich’s intentions regarding donating the proceeds of the Chelsea sale to charity have not changed.

“Since the initial announcement, Mr. Abramovich’s team has identified senior officials from UN bodies and major global charities who have been tasked with establishing a foundation and drawing up a roadmap for their activities.

“The lead independent expert held meetings with government officials, presenting the structure and initial plans.

“Mr. Abramovich was not involved in this work, and it was conducted independently by experts with years of experience working in humanitarian organizations.” Roman Abramovich insists claims of a U-turn on a £1.5billion Chelsea loan are false
