Ron DeSantis suspends Democratic prosecutor Monique Worrell

Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis suspended another The chief prosecutor on Wednesday claimed prosecutor Monique Worrell, a Democrat, was too soft on crime in her Orlando-area county.
“Prosecutors have a duty to diligently enforce a law. “One’s political agenda cannot trump that solemn duty,” DeSantis said at a news conference Wednesday morning. “Accordingly, today I announce the suspension of District Attorney Monique Worrell.”
Worrell’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
DeSantis — who is running for the Republican presidential nomination — has repeatedly criticized Worrell.
In April, Worrell’s office wrote in a letter that DeSantis was “trying to exploit his political agenda against me” and that his office was trying to “build and justify a baseless case against a prosecutor with whom he simply disagrees politically.”
The decision comes nearly a year after DeSantis suspended another Democratic attorney general, the DA Andrew Warren of Hillsborough County.
