Royal Ascot has begun – and among the royals spending a day at the races is Princess Beatrice.
She arrived at the Berkshire circuit with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and went through the gates to the track with the other players.
Beatrice chose a beautiful summery floral dress for the occasion, which she paired with an elegant hat, sophisticated belt and clutch bag with her initials BY – Beatrice York.
But some royal fans have noticed that she also wore a name tag on her dress – as is customary at Royal Ascot, and this year it looked very different to the name she had on the badge in previous years.
Because the badge read: “HRH Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – reflecting that she tied the knot with husband Edo in July 2020.
In earlier years, Beatrice’s tag would have read: “HRH Princess Beatrice”. She did not attend the reduced Royal Ascot last year as she would have been heavily pregnant with daughter Sienna.
However, one royal missing from Royal Ascot today is Beatrice’s grandmother, the Queen.
But she wrote a note for the official program hailing the event as an “exciting” experience for race-goers.

She wrote: “After the challenges of recent times, this year’s royal gathering offers a long-awaited opportunity for racing fans from around the world to experience five days of outstanding sport.
“It is once again exciting that horses from all over the world have traveled to Royal Ascot to compete at the highest level.”
The Queen has entered more than 10 horses over the five days of the event and with her home at Windsor Castle just a 15 minute drive away there is still hope that she will take part later in the week.
Her horse Reach For The Moon, who missed out on being entered for the Epsom Derby, is the favorite with some bookmakers to win Thursday’s Hampton Court Stakes, with jockey Frankie Dettori taking the reins.
However, the procession of the royal carriage still took place today, with Prince Charles and Camilla leading the royals’ party.
They rode in the first carriage alongside Charles’ nephew Peter Phillips – Princess Anne’s son.
They were followed by the Princess Royal and smaller members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
Royal Ascot is both a social occasion and a sporting event and the female race-goers wore sundresses and extravagant hats while the men wore top hats and tails or smart suits.
