He’s the adorable kid David on Royle Family, but the two decades on James Matthew-Hughes are all grown up.
James played David and Denise Best’s first child, born on Christmas Day, back in 1999 and continued to appear throughout the third season with seasons including his baptism and his first birthday.
And it started appearing in the hugely popular British sitcom that influenced his life as James continued his training to become a musical stage actor and has starred in many shows. stage.
James played the role for a year and it was then taken on by Harry Cash in 2006 on the show’s re-run episode of The Queen of Sheba.
In the episode, young David is seen as a child and a bitter image of his father as they don matching t-shirts for the reunion and simultaneously answer “yes” when they are asked a question. .
Following his stint on the show as a kid, James earned a degree in theater arts and has starred in musicals such as Crazy for You and Me And My Girl at the London Palladium.
In addition to boasting of being able to put a lot of emphasis on his resume, James can also dance jazz, tap, ballet and classical dance and is a highly trained singer.
The Royle family lasted from 1998 to 2000 when Caroline Aherne announced she would not star in or write any more episodes.
There’s a chance the show could go on without her, but one cast member has assured that that won’t happen.
Ricky Tomlinson stepped back to ensure that the comedy series inevitably ended when it was at its peak.
However, six years later Caroline and Craig wrote a special and then went on to work on four more books through 2012.
After Caroline’s tragic death in 2016, many of the cast have insisted they wouldn’t want to reunite on screen without her.
Ricky said on Loose Women in 2020: “It’s not for me, if it’s not broken, don’t try and fix it.
“She’s amazing. How many people my age love to go to work? How many people can’t wait to wake up and go to work in the morning and laugh? That’s what happened.”
Ricky shares a special bond with his on-screen daughter.
Recalling their days on the set of Manchester, Ricky previously explained his most memorable was the Christmas special in 1999, in which Denise gave birth and Jim was left to comfort her.
He found the scene with Caroline particularly poignant for two reasons, he explained: “I think it was so special to her because she had no children.
“And it’s so special to me because my daughter, my Kate, was born on Christmas Day.
“And that’s why the tears are real. The cameraman was the son of Corrie’s character, Stan Ogden, and he ended up crying and saying, ‘That’s it. We don’t need to shoot anymore.’ .’ It just stands out in my mind.”
