RTÉ 2fm boss reveals Eoghan McDermott’s future at station

RTÉ 2fm head Dan Healy offered his opinion on whether former broadcaster Eoghan McDermott (39) has a future at the station.

Ast March saw the broadcaster post a statement and break his silence for the first time since abruptly switching from the station in February 2021.

He was previously on a breakfast show with Doireann Garrihy and at the time no reason was given for his sudden departure.

In a Twitter post earlier this year addressing false accusations against him on social media sites, he included a letter to his attorney Paul Tweed.

He said that “although not investigated or verified, these allegations have been widely circulated… I hope the following can close this chapter.”

He has recently resumed his media work after resuming his role as a narrator on Love Island Australia, with the show’s fourth season currently being filmed in Mallorca,

In an interview when 2fm’s Dan Healy talked about finding a replacement for Tara Kumar on a weekend schedule, he said that “whatever’s going on, it’s really hard to find men (who are) present).”

When asked if McDermott was still open at the station, he said the current schedule was “locked”.

“His contract was up with us at the time and the schedule is now locked down,” he said.

He said that the station is currently moving in a certain direction with talent like 2 Johnnies, Breakfast Show trio Doireann Garrihy, Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullen along with Jen Zamparelli and Tracy Clifford.

“I don’t see this schedule moving. I think we made the right decisions about talent. We have a really nice daytime schedule,” he said.

He also talked about Doireann Garrihy joining 2fm star Jen Zamparelli on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Ireland and thinks she’s the perfect fit for the role. He also said that Lottie Ryan was extremely disappointed to have missed the present moment.

“First of all, I’m really sorry to Lottie (Ryan). I think Lottie is a great character. She won the show and I’d say she’d love to host it,” he said.

“She will take her turn again. So I’m sure she gutted and why wouldn’t she? I’m really emotional for Doireann, I think she’s going to take it out of the park and we already know what Jen is capable of.

“Having the two of them on that show would be great and I think Doireann is going to be brilliant. She’s quick, she’s funny and you can see her as Claudia Winkleman – you can see she’s a great fit for that role. “
