RTÉ Late Late Show will pay tribute to Vicky Phelan, including a performance of The Stunning

The Late Late Show will pay tribute to cervical cancer activist Vicky Phelan on Friday night when one of her favorite bands, The Stunning, will perform a special musical performance.

The 48-year-old had previously spoken of her delight at attending a gig by the Galway band in Lisdoonvarna in Co Clare last December.

In response to news of Ms Phelan’s death earlier this week, the show’s host Ryan Tubridy said there was something “so shocking” about her death, even though it was expected.

“I think it was because some people are too alive to die and she was one of those people,” he added.

“But a big part of me quickly shifted to happier thoughts about her. Although she demanded no tribute, no one would keep that promise to her. If anyone should be commended, it is her.”

The Late Late Show’s producers said this week’s program will “pay tribute to fearless activist Vicky Phelan as her struggle continues after her death.”

Irish band The Stunning will also remember Ms. Phelan with a special musical performance dedicated to one of her biggest fans.

Joining Tubridy on the couch this week is Knocklyon native Alisha Weir, who will be discussing how she traded the Toy Show stage to star alongside Emma Thompson in the upcoming The Toy Show movie Mathilde.

Two-time Golden Globe winner, Hollywood Queen Jane Seymour will also be live in the studio to talk about what it takes to be a leading lady, her love for Ireland and what we can expect from season two of Harry Wild.

Former RTÉ football pundit and podcaster Eamon Dunphy will speak about the most controversial World Cup in living memory.

As the tournament begins on Sunday, Mr Dunphy will explain why he is deeply uncomfortable with this year’s competition and why it is time for football to take a stand.

Meanwhile, Athy singer Jack Lukeman, aka Jack L, will perform his single Sundogs in the moonlight.
