RTÉ’s children’s news program, news2day, has revealed the newest member of its presentation team.
ubliner Molly O’Connor joins Limerick presenter Reem El-Hassany, who has been on news2day since last year.
News2day is RTÉ’s news service specially designed for children, covering Irish and international news tailored to younger audiences.
Taking over from Míteál Ó Scanaill, first-time TV presenter O’Connor was selected after an audition process for the show, which airs live Monday through Friday at 4:20pm.
In addition to young viewers watching at home, it was also watched online in classrooms around the country – and used as a teaching tool.
O’Connor hails from north Dublin, and has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies at Dublin City University and a Master’s degree in Journalism at NUI Galway.
She also has behind-the-scenes experience in TV productions such as Ireland’s Got Talent and Ireland’s Strongest Family, and she also serves a spell as a news reporter for Independent.ie.
Speaking of hobbies that include playing the piano, guitar and sudoku as well as walking her dogs Barney and Elmo, O’Connor is a longtime fan of news2day and says she’s looking forward to starting out as a is the presenter.
O’Connor said: “I can’t wait to visit these lovely schools. “I’m super excited to meet people and hear the next generation’s views on news topics and what they think needs to be done to improve the world.”
