RTE star Anna Geary couldn’t hold back her tears as she spoke of the “collective sadness” the entire nation had to go through in the wake of Ashling Murphy’s murder.

23-year-old teacher Ashling was out jogging at the time she was fatally attacked in Co Offaly last week.

Ashling has ferocious attack along a canal in Tullamore on Wednesday. It is supposed to be a random attack.

There has been a wave of heartbreak for Ashling on social media since the tragic news broke.

Ireland’s Fittest Family coach Anna Geary got emotional talking about Ashling last night.

Sharing on Instagram, she said: “It’s been a sad week so I hope you’re okay. Just take care of yourself.

“And I know I haven’t come here in the last few days and talked about what happened to Ashling Murphy and the fact that I just can’t find the right words.

“Are there even the right words? I don’t want to upset anyone or say the wrong thing or come across as if I know what I’m talking about when really I’m just trying to process this like everyone else does. .”

Anna explains that she wants to be sensitive to Ashling’s family and friends during this difficult time.

She said: “I know some people who have gone out and they’ve given their opinions and people speak from so many different experiences and perspectives and points of view and so many things people have said. really valuable.

‘COLLECTIVE SADNESS’

“I’m really mindful of the fact that there’s a group of family and friends who are grieving right now and I won’t say anything that can change that or ease their grief.

She added later: “I’ve been reading a lot and listening a lot these past few days trying to gather my thoughts.

“There is a collective sadness and a hurt that is really palpable.

“I stopped when I saw this from psychologist Niamh Fitzpatrick and I find myself reading it a few times.”

‘KILL DEATH CELK’

Anna shared Niamh’s tweet, explaining why many people may be saddened by Ashling’s death.

Niamh said: “My feeling is that, along with our pain for Ashling Murphy, is shared pain for the society we hope we’ve lived in.

“That we haven’t created a space for all of us to live safely is horrifying, upsetting and devastating.”
