The Late Late Show host had some positive words about this morning’s announcement on RTE Radio 1.

Ryan said: “I’m hopeful about all of this today. So let’s see what happens! Just come down and tell us some good news.”

Although the presenter predicts that restrictions will be eased, he is still worried because he is too “excited”.

“And then I’m like, ‘Amazing, I’ve got one trip planned, maybe two trips…maybe three,” Ryan said.

“I’m ready to go and I have to get to work. We all have to live! I missed a very important trip for Christmas and had to fix that.

“And then I’d go ‘Be careful with the idiot’ – I’m referring to myself because at any moment you get very excited before a variation appears.”

Michael Martin says he will issue a statement, breaking down the short and medium term plan precisely – with restrictions set to ease earlier than planned.

Speaking on RTE’s Morning Ireland, Taoiseach said: “The NPHET is meeting today. The Government is meeting tomorrow. After that Government meeting, I intend to make a clear and comprehensive statement on what is going on. forward in the short and medium term.

“The situation is positive. We went through Omicron better than we could have expected before Christmas.”

He added: “I think we are entering a new phase, I hope to get a position tomorrow night to give a clear, comprehensive position on lifting restrictions.

“And also how we currently plan to live with Covid for the time being because Covid is not going away, but we are definitely entering the next phase of it.”

The government has indicated that restrictions will be eased next week, rather than at the end of the month as previously planned.

“The initial restrictions are in place until the end of the month. Now we can go before that,” Taoiseach said.

“And again, I would like NPHET to allow it to meet today but yes, I think we can expect an easing of restrictions sooner than we might have anticipated.”
