RTE Ryan Tubridy made a touching tribute to Sinead O’Connor’s Ashling Murphy and Shane.
Ashling was brutally murdered while she was on the run along a canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly last week and her funeral will take place today.
Sinead O’Connor and Donald Lunny’s son, Shane, tragically passed away last week.
Ryan revealed he spoke to heartbroken singer Sinead O’Connor, who sent a tune she wrote to her late son.
The presenter decided to play the “raw edit” and dedicate it to family and friends grieving today.
He said on RTE 1 radio: “Of course, we mentioned on the Late Late Show, Ashling and we mentioned Sinead O’Connor and Donal Lunny’s son Shane, who also did passed away.
“Musicians also want to mark that desperate story. I spoke to Sinead on Saturday.
“She’s doing great under the circumstances but she was very thoughtful sending a song to us here last night or in the early hours of this morning.
“She wrote it about her son about two and a half years ago and she said, ‘You can play it if you like.
“Great, it’s a rough edit as she calls it. It’s called A Horse on the Highway.
“I listened to it this morning and it’s a really good song.
“And Sinead is grieving and the Murphy family is grieving today and the country is grieving today.
“I just felt that this song, at Sinead’s suggestion, would be a good song to play as we say goodbye to you today, on this day, because it’s a song about pain. and it’s a song about the loss of a child who passed away too soon.
“This is the horse on the highway.”
Meanwhile, Sinead talks about how her beloved Shane “loves everyone at St Pat’s”.
A friend on Twitter posted: “I can’t imagine your pain and loss. Shane is without a doubt the light of your life.
“His visits in Pat lit up all of us. A lovely scammer with a big heart. Wish I could hug you tight. Xxx”
Sinead replied, “Love this. Thanks. Shaney loves everyone at St Pat’s.”
Weekend Shane has been remembered at a private Hindu service.
Sinead wore a pink tracksuit and green scarf after she and Donal asked mourners attending Shane’s memorial to wear bright colors in his honor.
55 years old Nothing compares 2 U singer later tweeted: “We just said goodbye to our beautiful angel, Shaney. Very lovely Hindu ceremony. Shane will love it.
“He was always chanting” Om. Shanti”. I put a few packages of fakes in his coffin in case no one was in heaven. He will love that too. Braised. Shanti. ”
