Rumbleverse will shut down in February

Iron Galaxy’s Rumbleverse, its pro-wrestling battle royale, will be canceled next month, just seven months after its full launch last August.

Although Iron Galaxy does not clearly state the reason for the Rumbleverse’s downfall, a blog entry suggests somewhat that a lack of substantive actors may have played a role, partly explaining:

“When you work on a video game, imagine the community that will one day show up to play it. For years we have dreamed of a vibrant city full of people fighting to become a champion. We have strived to create a vibrant place that celebrates the spirit of competition. Our goal was to bring back the joy of online multiplayer gaming. The people who have given Rumbleverse a chance and embraced it as a new hobby confirm every day that we bring our ideas to life.”

The Rumbleverse online servers were shut down at 10am CST on February 28th. Players who have spent money on or within the game will receive a refund. This includes the Rumbleverse Battle Pass or Brawlla Bills on each platform. The current Battle Pass will also be made available free of charge to all players with double XP gain. Certain emotes and accessories can also be purchased for free. Today Iron Galaxy will close the in-game store and release the last update.

First announced during the 2021 Game Awards, Rumbleverse offered a unique twist to the battle royale with its emphasis on hand-to-hand combat. After conducting various beta tests throughout the first half of 2022, the game opened its doors in August to a generally warm welcome from players and critics alike. In related news, Konami announced today that it will turn off the lights for its 2022 social deduction game, Crimesight.
