The runaway prison guard and her jailbird lover, who have been on the run for nearly two weeks, had planned to end things with a “shootout” with chasing cops.

Vicky White, formerly the assistant chief of the Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama, freed white supremacist Casey Cole White from jail and went on the run in April.

The modern-day Bonnie and Clyde were tracked down to a motel in Evansville, Indiana, 11 days after Vicky told her colleagues she was taking the animal for a psychiatric evaluation.

Instead of surrendering to the approaching officers, the two tried to flee in their car but were rammed into a ditch by police.

When 6ft 9 White, 38, gave in to police, Vicky shot herself in the head and later died from her injuries.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding, meanwhile, has revealed the day could have ended in more bloodshed if they hadn’t been rammed off the road.

A large number of weapons were found in her vehicle, which officers believe may have been used in a desperate shootout with police officers.

He told reporters: “We found that out later [if they hadn’t rammed the vehicle]the fugitive wanted to get involved in a shootout with the police.

“This action may have saved the lives of many of my deputies and fellow law enforcement officers.”

The unrelated couple are said to have been in a “jailhouse romance” for around two years.

Her dramatic escape took place on the eve of Vicky’s retirement as a correctional officer.

Since their 2020 meeting, Vicky has regularly driven the two hours to where Casey was incarcerated, at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility.

She gave the prison authorities a false name.

Her estranged husband died of Parkinson’s in January. Vicky White had no children.

After she and Casey fled, it emerged she had sold her £200,000 home for just £77,000 nine days earlier.

Under the pseudonym April Davis or Renee Marie Maxwell, she bought the brown Ford – and other important things.

White also visited a retailer specializing in clothes for tall men and Sugar and Spice, a sex-themed store where she bought lingerie and, the owners have suggested, a selection of bedroom toys.

Casey White, who was previously charged with a stabbing in September 2020 and was serving a sentence for crimes committed in 2015, is now also facing fugitive charges

He was seen handcuffed and shackled in the care of Vicky White as he left prison in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, about 65 miles west of Huntsville, in late April.

At the time, it was believed that the correctional officer was transporting him to the courthouse for a mental exam.
