Russia is facing a Botox shortage due to global sanctions amid speculation Vladimir Putin is receiving the treatment.

Between January and March, imports of Botox chemicals to Russia fell threefold compared to the previous year.

Russian clinics are now scrambling to switch to domestic drugs to keep up with demand.

Yulia Frangulova, the co-founder of the National Association of Clinics of Aesthetic Medicine SRO (NAKEM), said Ins.ru : “The dwindling Botox supplies in the clinics are already causing a stir.”

It has been speculated since 2011 that Putin underwent Botox treatments.

The first rumors began when he appeared at a meeting in Kyiv with blue eyes.

The Kremlin chief’s leader had an ugly looking blue and yellow bruise around his eye, which many concluded was a result of Botox.

There was so much talk that Putin’s spokesman had to deny it: “The light probably just fell on it. The prime minister is tired.”

Since then his face had become even smoother and the wrinkles seem to have disappeared.

The liberal Russian magazine New Times revived the Botox debate the following year in an article entitled “What Happened to Putin’s Face?”.

Four plastic surgeons previously agreed that it’s likely Putin received Botox on his forehead, as well as an eye lift on his lower lids and an injection of firming filler in his cheekbones.

There is also speculation that Putin’s alleged lover, Alina Kabaev, uses the same plastic surgeon as Putin.

However, former Foreign Secretary Lord David Owen said he suspected steroid use because of changes in Putin’s face shape that could be caused by muscle-building drugs.

Lord Owen told Times Radio: “Look at his face, see how that’s changed – he’s got an oval face now.

“People who said oh it’s plastic surgery or botox, I don’t believe that at all.

“He’s either on anabolic steroids as a bodybuilder – and he’s very proud of his muscles and strips up to his waist and all that – or he’s on corticosteroids.

“When you do these drugs, it gives you this face.

“It lowers your immunity and makes you more susceptible to Covid.

“This man has been completely isolated, quite exceptional, won’t see anyone, stays miles away, enormous pressure.

“Which suggests he’s on a steroid and probably, maybe, a combination of both.”
