Russia says it will ‘not forget’ Britain’s support for Ukraine’s biggest threat yet.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has promised London “retaliatory measures” after the government, along with other countries in the West, imposed sanctions on the attacker

Russia has threatened it “will not forget” Britain’s support for Ukraine as the world approaches world war.

State media say the country is furious at the sanctions imposed by Boris Johnson’s government.

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a veiled threat to Britain and its allies.

Evening Standard spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: “The sanctions hysteria, in which London is a leading, if not the leading, player, leaves us with no choice but to take relatively harsh retaliatory measures.”

She added: “Let’s not forget the cooperation of the British with the Kiev regime and the ultra-nationalist forces in Ukraine, the ongoing supply of British arms these days, which are used against the civilian population of Donbass and the Russian military.”

She has previously accused the BBC of playing “a determined role in undermining Russia’s stability and security” after announcing she would halt the work of her journalists in Russia as the authorities passed laws cracking down on foreign media.

The answer comes after the prime minister unveiled the “biggest and heaviest package” of sanctions “Russia has ever seen” after Moscow launched the brutal invasion of Ukraine by land, sea and air.

Despite Russia’s anger at Britain, the prime minister has been criticized by some for the response, as only 15 individual Russians, including Putin and his foreign minister, have been targeted so far.

In contrast, the EU has imposed sanctions and travel bans on 702 people, including all members of the Russian parliament and more than 50 organizations linked to Putin.

Mr Johnson previously said: “As long as Putin continues his barbaric attack on innocent Ukrainians, we will continue to use every force we have to inflict maximum economic pain on Putin and his war machine.”
