Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russia has kidnapped more than 200,000 children, torn families apart and taken them from orphanages.

In his final late-night address to mark Ukraine’s Children’s Day on June 1, the Kiev leader spoke about the impact the Russian invasion had on his country’s children.

He said 243 children had tragically died, 689 were injured and 139 were missing.

These numbers include only the children known to them.

He also spoke about Russia’s “criminal policy” of stealing and “forcibly deporting” Ukrainians across the border.

Zelenskyy called it one of Russia’s “most heinous war crimes” and said it affected orphans from orphanages, children with parents and children separated from their families.

He also spoke about a young girl named Polina, who was not even two years old.

She lived in Boroyanka and had been at home when a Russian tank fired on her house, killing her instantly.
