A Russian state TV presenter has made the shocking claim that Britain is preparing to attack the country with nuclear weapons.
Well-known journalist Vladimir Solovyov claimed that images and reports of invading forces committing genocide in Ukraine are being shown in Britain to prepare the British public.
He claimed that the images of tortured and destroyed houses and cities were only intended to turn public opinion in Britain against Moscow.
The BBC’s Francis Scarr, who works in the surveillance department, said the claims were broadcast on tightly controlled state television on Monday night.
Mr. Solovyov tells the guests in the studio: “This is the perfect option for the west.
“Not America, that would be a shame for them [to be hit in retaliation]but Britain attacks the country guilty of genocide and upsetting poor, unfortunate Zelensky.
“It is also clear that we eliminated a lot of British trainers in Ukraine.
“And Britain, which has nuclear weapons, is hitting us with tactical nuclear weapons.”
He is asked by a cast member on the show if Britain can do it alone, without the Americans.
Mr. Solovyov stressed: “They have their own nuclear weapons. Britain and France have their own nuclear weapons and launch vehicles for them. You know, hypothetically.
“And for America, it’s the perfect option. First they liberate themselves from Britain.
“And then, well, we shouldn’t touch her in retaliation.”
Then he adds a dig at the British Prime Minister: “Can anyone understand what’s going on in Johnson’s head?”
Today, on Tuesday, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukraine’s defenses along almost the entire front line in eastern Ukraine, launching what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the “Battle of Donbass.”
In his late-night address, the Ukrainian president said a “very large part of the entire Russian army” is now concentrating on the offensive.
“No matter how many Russian troops they send there, we will fight. We will defend ourselves.”
Zelenskyy’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak assured the Ukrainians that their troops could repel the offensive.
“Believe in our army, it’s very strong,” he said.
The coal and steel-producing Donbass region has been at the center of Russia’s campaign to destabilize Ukraine since 2014.
Ukraine’s General Staff said Russian forces are aiming to take full control of the Donetsk, Luhansk and Kherson regions while stepping up missile attacks in western Ukraine.
Russia is also attempting to take complete control of the southeastern port city of Mariupol, which has been under siege since the beginning of the war.
Tens of thousands of residents are trapped in the city with no access to food or water, and bodies lie in the streets.
Ukraine believes more than 20,000 civilians have died there.
Major Serhiy Volyna, commander of Ukraine’s 36th Naval Brigade, which is still fighting in Mariupol, asked for help
in a letter to Pope Francis.
“This is what hell on earth looks like… It is time (for) help, not only through prayers. Save our lives from satanic hands,” he said
the letter reads, according to excerpts posted on Twitter by the Vatican ambassador to Ukraine.
