Russian troops have stuffed children’s toys with explosives in a “barbaric” attempt to kill civilians, a surgeon has claimed.
Oleksandr Yatsyna, who is treating the wounded in Kyiv, believes the disgusting tactic is being used to break the resistance of the Ukrainian population.
He said the times : “First we had the catastrophic injuries from the bombs, then the gunfire, next the mines scattered along the roads, but worst of all are the stuffed animals filled with explosives.
“They target families. Be absolutely certain, the Russians are determined to kill our civilians and children as well.”
It is the latest in a series of war crimes allegations leveled against Vladimir Putin’s forces, which investigate allegations of murder, torture, rape and targeting of civilians.
dr Yatsyna said Russia wanted to “terrify us with its barbarism” and said the stories he heard from the victims “will haunt me forever”.

Yesterday Russia was responsible for another bloodbath targeting families trying to flee the war when it bombed a train station in Kramatorsk.
It later emerged that one of the missiles used in the relentless attack had the words “for children” written in Russian on the side.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack – which killed more than 50 people, including at least 10 children – showed “evil without borders” at the hands of Russian invaders.
Mr. Selensky said: “The inhumane Russians do not change their methods.
“Without the strength or courage to face us on the battlefield, they cynically destroy civilians.
“This is an evil without limits. And if it is not punished, it will never stop.”
Tonight it was announced that Britain will send 120 armored vehicles and new anti-ship missile systems in support of Ukraine.
Talks between Boris Johnson and Mr Zelenskyj follow in Kyiv.
The prime minister said he made his unannounced visit to the Ukrainian capital as “a sign of our unwavering support for the people of Ukraine”.
As well as the armored vehicles, Mr Johnson said Britain would also send new anti-ship missile systems in a significant increase in British military support.
It comes the day after he announced £100m in further British military aid, including anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons and so-called ‘suicide drones’, which will be loitering over the battlefield before engaging their target.
Following his meeting with Ukraine’s leader, Mr Johnson said in a statement: “Ukraine has defied the odds and pushed back Russian forces at the gates of Kyiv in the greatest feat of arms of the 21st century.
“It is because of President Zelensky’s determined leadership and the invincible heroism and courage of the Ukrainian people that Putin’s monstrous goals are being thwarted.
“I made it clear today that the UK stands steadfastly with them in this ongoing battle and we are in it for the long haul.
“We are increasing our own military and economic support and are calling a global alliance to end this tragedy and ensure Ukraine survives and prospers as a free and sovereign nation.”
