Ruth Jones on James Corden: We’ll Always Be Friends

Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones said she and James Corden will always be friends due to the “life-changing experience” they shared thanks to the hit TV series.

Jones, the cover star of November’s Good Housekeeping magazine, said of Corden: “We will always be friends because we shared this life-changing experience; Our careers wouldn’t be where they are without Gavin & Stacey and we’re both incredibly grateful for that.

“It’s funny because it’s been 15 years since the first episode and a lot has happened since then, but it feels like yesterday.”

The Little Britain actress, who first met Corden while working on ITV drama Fat Friends, also spoke about having previously met the Queen, who gave her an MBE in 2014 during a ceremony promoted to Windsor Castle.

“I met her twice,” she said.

“Once at a Charles Dickens biennial event at Buckingham Palace in 2012 – she was small and quiet, very stately and quite charming – then when I received my MBE at the Castle Windsor in 2014.

“I feel very fortunate to have met her.”

Jones, whose other roles include the Sky comedy Stella – for which she received a Bafta TV nomination in the Best Comedy Actress category, also succeeded as Carry star Hattie Jacques On in the BBC biopic.

Turning 56 this year, Jones told the magazine: “I’m not sure if it’s age or what’s going on in the world, but I realized I had to stop looking down on life.

“When I was young, I used to think that there would be this magic point in the future when everything would be perfect… but, let’s be real, most of my years are behind me.

“So this decade is about opening my eyes to the good things around me – and enjoying them.”

Jones has also published her third novel, titled Love Untold.
