If “Rutherford Falls” ends the book on its story after season 2, it will have some unwritten ending. First, at an eleventh hour, Bobbie is elected mayor despite having to endure a smear campaign waged by their rival, Feather (Kaniehtiio Horn). But the race ending puts Bobbie (and nearby, possibly Nathan) at odds with Terry, as Bobbie openly throws Terry’s son under the bus to save face.
Meanwhile, the series also ends with not one but two love triangles. After finding out he’s fed the former mayor, Deirdre (Dana L. Wilson), Nathan spends the season trying to win her affections. She ultimately decided to let go of their relationship, but her decision came shortly after he finally hooked up with Miss Fish (Beth Stelling), who had a crush on him for two seasons. Worse still, Miss Fish is Deirdre’s doula.
Reagan also ended the season between two romance options, and her decision was a lot harder than that of Nathan (picking Deirdre, man). On the other hand, her cute podcaster ex, Josh (Milligan, aka Ted from “Schitt’s Creek”), is back in town and still seems to love her. On the other hand, she quickly builds a comfortable life with Nelson (Goldtooth), the museum curator she succeeds in after hiring him at the cultural center.
Reagan also had ambitious new plans for the community, she announced her intention to use her land to build a space for Indigenous singles. Meanwhile, Terry got into the cannabis business after he and Reagan shared a super high yield. There are half a dozen “Rutherford Falls” storylines to explore in season 3, and I can’t wait to see them all. Though, to be honest, I would pay any streamer extra to see what Bobbie’s inevitable wild mayor reign will be.
