Ryan Gosling has said that starring in the Netflix spy thriller Gray Man gave him “a bit of experience” being in a Marvel movie.
He is a Hollywood star, 41 years old, playing Court Gentry, a former CIA agent who uncovers a secret that puts his life in danger, in the films of Anthony and Joe Russo – famous directors with work on the Avengers movies.
Gray Man also stars Captain America star Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen, a former CIA operative who hunts Gentry around the world, while Knives Out’s Ana de Armas appears as agent Dani Miranda, and Rege-Jean Page as a villainous spy boss.
Gosling has yet to appear in a Marvel movie, but is said to have expressed interest in playing the character of Ghost Rider.
Speaking to PA news agency at a special screening of The Gray Man in London, he said: “I really feel like I have to have a bit of experience with this because obviously Russos and Chris and phi crew they work with the same crew – so I have a bit of Marvel experience. “
When asked about Evans’ villain, who has a mustache, he added: “When Chris comes in with the trash mustache, the whole thing is very interesting, because a hero is only as good with his villain. So when he showed up, I though ‘it’s okay!’
Joe Russo said that Gosling joining Marvel would be a great “story” but that all the cast are talented enough to take on roles in the superhero world.
He told PA: “I think they’re going to get on their knees to get any of these guys in the Marvel universe. But Ryan, my god. What a story.
“Rege, Jessica Henwick, Ana – it sucks in this movie. I can go and come back.”
Having just started playing Bond girl Paloma in 007 No Time To Die, de Armas said she enjoyed the many physical stunts during filming.

When asked how her experience was different between Bond and The Gray Man, she said: “It’s different because, in the Bond movie, I only had 15 minutes in the movie, which was amazing and I know that audiences love this character. Paloma is amazing.
“But this, of course, requires more work and preparation. We trained for about three months, and I tried to do the best I could.
“That’s what double stunts are for the really dangerous parts, but I really enjoyed it.
“I didn’t know I would be much into the genre and I love it. It’s a lot of work but it pays off and looks incredible on screen.”
The Gray Man is currently in theaters and premieres on Netflix on July 22.
