Ryanair increases UK October capacity citing Heathrow cap

Ryanair is adding 500 flights to its autumn schedule from its base at London Stansted Airport as the low-cost airline looks to attract more customers after Heathrow extended a capacity cap.

The additional flights will give Ryanair 100,000 extra seats to destinations including Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece during the mid-term school holidays, the airline said in an emailed statement.

On Monday, Heathrow announced that it will now have a daily limit of 100,000 departing passengers until October 29, as the UK’s largest hub struggles with an ongoing labor shortage at groundhandling operators.

Ryanair Chief Executive Officer Michael O’Leary described Heathrow as “hopeless”, saying both the airline and Stansted have enough staff to handle the extra flights.
