Michael Douglas was among a number of celebrities showing their support for the people of Ukraine as he wore a yellow and blue handkerchief of the country’s flag on the red carpet of the SAG awards ceremony.

While the SAG Awards are a time to recognize what’s best in Hollywood business, some stars have made sure they’re sending messages of support for Ukraine amid the ongoing battle with Russia.

Among those who shared their support was veteran actor Michael Douglas.

The 77-year-old came to the event hoping to add to his illustrious award-winning resume by taking home an award for his performance in The Kominsky Method.

He has been nominated for both Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by a Music Group in a Comedy Series.

But his appearance on the red carpet showed a message of defiance as he smartly donned a black suit and finished the look with a handkerchief the color of the Ukrainian flag.

Speaking on the red carpet about showing his support, he told the Access host: “This is not for the LA Rams. This is the color of the Ukrainian flag.

“If there’s ever been a time for us to appreciate what real democracy is, I’m very proud of what the people of this country have accomplished.”

He also shared his support on social media as he posted an image of his outfit on his Instagram. Fans were quick to send their compliments on the post, with one user simply writing: “Be respectful”.

And many others shared their support by commenting with a string of emojis showing the Ukrainian flag.

Michael is not alone in showing his support.

The Morning Show’s Greta Lee stepped onto the carpet in a stunning blue and yellow Marc Jacobs gown to honor the country’s colors.

Blue and gold ribbons were also worn by several stars as they entered the event, including Tyler Perry, Douglas Hodge and Shari Belafonte.

Lady Gaga, who looked amazing in a white and gold ensemble, also addressed the ongoing situation by telling host Laverne Cox: “There’s a lot going on in the world and hearts I’m really looking to Ukraine.”
