Sainsbury’s Shoppers speak out about a “misleading” email claiming they can buy their nectar Points in more money than they really could.

An email sent to some Nectar loyalty program users, dubbed “Big Points Swap,” says customers can double their points into cash.

The email states that customers could upgrade their points with a limited-time offer. Birmingham live reports .

Normally, shoppers with 2,000 points would get around £10 worth of vouchers, but the new offer gives customers £20.

But customers have complained on social media that the Nectar card app doesn’t offer the suggested amount. The new emails were also sent out to a select few customers via an invite program after the regular doubling promotion was discontinued.

One Twitter user said: “…the email I was sent showed I was getting double the value, I’m only being offered 50% on the app.”

Another shopper added: “Your email tells me 6,000 points goes up to £60 but the app only offers £45, what’s the matter?”

A Nectar spokesperson said: “We are regularly testing new ways to offer our customers great value for their Nectar points. We are currently testing a personalized point exchange offer with a small proportion of customers.

“We have noticed that some of these customers have received an email with incorrect information about the offer available to them. We will be in touch with affected customers to explain the confusion and apologize for the confusion this has caused.”

Customers need 2,000 points to be eligible and can redeem up to 10,000 points.

Earlier this year, The Mirror reported that Sainsbury’s has flipped its Nectar loyalty program on its head so shoppers can now donate their points to a selected charity.

The supermarket confirmed the launch of a new Nectar Donate option, which will work with charities such as Alzheimer’s Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Every Nectar Point donated converts into funding for your chosen organization with no fees.

The minimum donation value is 200 points, which equals £1.

This is the same value as the Nectar points you would redeem in Sainsbury’s stores.

Earn 1 Nectar point for every £1 spent, with 1 Nectar point being worth 0.5p in return.
