Saltdean man convicted of sex offenses at Hove Crown Court

A man has been found guilty of two sex offenses against a girl between the ages of 13 and 15.

Paul Latham, 65, has been convicted on two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl between the ages of 13 and 15.

The court heard how the crimes against the victim were committed at addresses in Hove and Woodingdean.

Latham, of Wicklands Avenue in Saltdean, was found not guilty of another rape of an adult.

DC Lisa Hampson, investigating officer in the case, said: “Latham is a predatory sex offender who exploited a teenage girl and has now been brought to justice.

“The victim in this case showed extraordinary courage and tenacity. She has remained resolute during a very difficult time.

“We have worked tirelessly to secure that belief. Victims of sex crimes are always supported and we take their reports seriously.

“We hope the outcome of this case will give sex crime victims the confidence to come forward and report information to us.”

A jury at Hove Crown Court found Latham knew his victim was a minor but was sexually active with her.

Latham is scheduled to be sentenced on January 6, 2023.
