Samsung explains how its TVs are becoming NFT gateways

Samsung makes delivers on its promise from CES 2022 Bringing NFTs to its TVs by announcing a partnership with NFT auction site Nifty Gateway. in the a press releaseNifty Gateway says it’s “now integrated with Samsung’s NFT platform” and allows you to “browse, view and interact with NFTs” on the company’s “2022 premium TV product lines like QLED.” and Neo QLED TV”. Nifty Gateway will also have an app from Samsung The frame and Micro LED TV.
Basically, you can view NFTs on your Samsung TV. And maybe even buy or sell accordingly decryptalthough it’s worth noting that Nifty Gateway is significantly stricter about who can sell artworks on their platform than OpenSea, the NFT marketplace most people will be familiar with. (Also, I don’t think I’d want to buy anything much more expensive than a movie rental with a remote control, but maybe that’s just me.)

in the an announcement stream, Samsung reiterated that its TVs “optimize settings for a faithful representation of the artist’s intent” when displaying an NFT. That’s good to hear – I’d be devastated if my Samsung TV displayed this NFT (created by one of the artists featured in the Nifty Gateway press release) with anything but pixel-perfect accuracy.

Nifty Gateway integration will be part of Samsung’s Smart Hub, and it seems to be Samsung’s intention is for you to view NFTs as environment graphics. Suppose you are watching a movie The social networkbut choose to turn it off because you are so upset to see Mark Zuckerberg be mean to Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. Your TV would then go into ambient mode and display artwork from your curated gallery – which you could fill with NFTs from Nifty Gateway… a platform owned by the Winklevoss twins. Does that basically make Samsung’s NFT integration a fancy screensaver? No of course not. It makes it Future.
