Two days later Sarah Palin testing positive for coronavirus, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate dined al fresco in New York City Wednesday night, defying federal guidance that those infected must be isolated from others for at least five full days.
Miss Palin, who was not vaccinated, returned to Elio’s, the Upper East Side restaurant where she had been seen having dinner indoors on saturday despite the city’s requirement that in-house guests present proof of vaccinations. Failure to comply can result in a $1,000 fine for the business owner.
Luca Guaitolini, the restaurant’s manager, who confirmed both of Ms Palin’s visits in the past week, said they “just made a mistake” on Saturday.
In a statement on Thursday, Mr Guaitolini said she returned to the restaurant on Wednesday to “apologise for the regrets surrounding her previous visit”. He said Ms. Palin had been sitting outdoors in accordance with vaccination duties and to protect the restaurant’s staff. “We are a restaurant open to the public and we treat civilians equally,” he said.
Anne Isaak, owner of Elio’s, said it was against her “stated a wish that Sarah Palin dined out last night,” According to The Washington Post.
Attorneys for Ms. Palin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The office of the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, urged New Yorkers who may have contacted Ms. Palin to get tested and later shared an updated statement of the events.

But unlike restaurants, there is no penalty for those who refuse to quarantine.
