Michelle Obama reveals her daughters have boyfriends

Sasha Obama has been hanging out with her new boyfriend, Clifton Powell Jr. – the son of a Hollywood star.

The worlds of American politics and Hollywood glamor have collided as former President Barack Obama’s 20-year-old daughter, 60, and Ray actor Clifton Powell’s son, 66, became closer.

Sasha, who is a grad student at the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, is dating 24-year-old Clifton Jr., who is a former college basketball player turned video producer.

The couple were spotted strolling around Hollywood earlier in the week, looking casual and relaxed as they took in the local attractions.

Sasha performed in a flowy purple skirt and pink and purple crop top while Clifton looked casual-cool in a simple branded tee and blue jeans.

The pair looked happy in each other’s company – with Sasha’s mother, former first lady Michelle Obama, opening up about their blossoming romance during an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show this month.

Troubled by her own adult daughters – who include Sasha and 23-year-old aspiring screenwriter Malia – Michelle told talk show villain Ellen, 64, “They loved the Jonas Brothers. Now they bring grown men home.

“Before, it was just pop bands. Now they have friends and a real life.”

According to the Daily Mail, Sasha and Clifton Jr. have been together since August last year but only went public with their romance this week.

Video producer Clifton is the son of Hollywood star Clifton Sr., who has starred in a number of blockbuster films including Dead Presidents, Rush Hour and Next Friday.

While his mother’s name is Kimberly Crooms, 58, she is said to be a successful businesswoman who runs an interior design firm called WhateverUneed Designs.

Proud father Clifton senior has often highlighted his son and his achievements on social media.

Pointing out that his son was a semi-pro basketball player, he announced back in 2016 via Facebook, “Look at Clifton Powell Jr. God’s good he’s officially signed in a full foursome [basketball] Scholarship at the University of California at Santa Barbra!”

However, Clifton Jr. dropped out of Santa Barbara School less than a year later and has since focused instead on his film career.

Meanwhile, Sasha grew up in the spotlight as the second daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama.

Barack has previously explained that the playlists he curates to highlight emerging and established musical talent have been supported by his daughters.

He said back in 2020, “My year-end playlists — these are the fresh cuts,” he said. “I must confess that I consult with Malia and Sasha throughout the year.

“I listen to their music all the time, sometimes by request, sometimes just because it’s blaring in our house. So you know, I’m picking up on some trends.”
