Fans of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway were in hysterics when they saw Neighbors star Jason Donovan finally eat in the iconic kebab van that bears his name.
The late-night food van, a Bristol night staple, was celebrated during the latest edition of the ITV show.
Fans were ecstatic when Jason Donovan visited the “weak” named Jason Donervan, with an excited crowd already forming around the van, giddy to see the late-night favorite get some airtime.
Andi Peters, 51, traveled around the UK to visit ‘punny’ food vans and presented the segment for the Saturday night show.
The TV presenter went on to ask the team behind the Jason Donervan if they’d ever had a visit from their Neighbor star namesake, and when they revealed he never had, Andi invited Jason to come and share a kebab “literally with your name on it”.
Saturday Night Takeaway continued from the studio until around 8.15pm when the camera returned to Bristol’s Andi Peters with Jason Donovan’s surprise appearance.
The 53-year-old actor emerged from the crowd to grab the “rather special” takeaway.
When asked what he’d like, Jason said, “A whole doner kebab with garlic mayonnaise and chili, can I have one of those please?”
He hardly had to wait, the dish was handed to him within seconds.
Fans of the show, which filled the crowd, said no one knew Jason would show up, and after filming wrapped, Jason posed for photos with the team behind the kebab fan before driving off in a limousine.
Back in the studio, Paloma Faith commented that watching Jason Donovan eat from the kebab truck was “quality entertainment”.
Jason recently made headlines when he expressed his feelings about the removal of Neighbors from UK Channel 5.
The actor found his fame on the soap opera, starring alongside pop star Kylie Minogue as Scott Robinson. His character famously married Kylie’s Charlene Robinson in one of the most-watched soap episodes of all time.
Taking to Twitter, he said: “@neighbours has changed the Australian television landscape. It has launched many careers over the decades including mine,
“Interested and entertained audience for generations.”
Expressing hope that the show would manage to still air in the UK, he wrote: “Hopefully it will find a new home on another UK channel and continue to provide opportunity and entertainment.”
Channel 5 confirmed they would stop airing the Australian soap from this summer.
A spokesman said: “Neighbors will no longer air on Channel 5 after this summer. It’s been a hugely popular part of our schedule for well over a decade and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and the entire production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series. Of course, we also want to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbors over the years.
“We recognize there will be disappointment with this decision, but our current focus is to increase our investment in original British dramas that are highly compelling to our viewers.”
