Parents were outraged after it was reported that teachers from the school in Clifton had been seen eating lunch on it.

It is believed the matter was raised with the principal and vice-principal, but then a formal complaint was filed yesterday.

One parent, who took the photo, told BristolLive: “I took it for my personal records so I could prove how long it was there.

“I also have a photo of all the teachers having lunch on it, which is optically really terrible.”

“You wouldn’t dream of using a wheelchair lift as a locker just because it’s not currently wheelchair accessible, you would always leave it open for use. I’m really confused how they can justify using the bay in this way.

“The message it sends is really that the use of the field is more important than the active offering there.”

She also said she was concerned for visitors to the school who might need to use that space.

The school has confirmed that the bench has been moved after the complaint was made.

Principal Clare Jones said: “As far as I can tell, this table is not in the handicapped parking space and we have plenty of car parking on site for anyone in need.”

The superintendent could not provide a more detailed response at this time as they are in “active confidential communication with parents regarding this matter”.

Dozens of social media users expressed outrage after the photo was widely circulated online.

One said: “What lesson/message does this teach everyone in that school community? The wrong one. ”

Another tweeted: “Personally I think it sends a very negative message towards people with disabilities.”

The school’s website states: “The Equality Act 2010 applies to our schools and our Governing Body is responsible for ensuring that our schools meet the requirements of the Equality Act. class.

“We need to make sure that adults and children with protected characteristics are not discriminated against.”
