Scorn Preview – An Xbox exclusive that’s sure to inspire fear

SCORN begins with you being engulfed in a prison of bone and sinew.

You pull your arm free and a vision flashes before you.

You’re standing on a dusty cliff and see an alien church in the distance. Then it flashes back to now and you take control.

There is no explanation as to how you got into this mess or what the mess is.

In fact, you don’t even know who or what you are, other than the fact that you are just a naked body trapped in a maze of organic oddities and rib cage passages.

you are human With arms, legs, and a torso, plus something resembling a face.

However, there’s more of whatever you are, piled up in piles of corpses pouring out of infernal machines.

It’s similar to 1993’s Myst if it had taken a journey through HR Giger’s worst drug addiction nightmare.

You wander around without anyone or anything telling you what to do as you poke your fingers through fleshy holes in body horror-inspired control panels.

The design of the game feels unrecognizable. There is nothing human here, as if it had not even been created by human hands.

That means you spend a lot of time wandering aimlessly, lost in a series of interconnected skin tubes.

In one room, you’ll see a wall of eggs wired like the human batteries from The Matrix.

Remove one from the wall to reveal a human thing inside, half fused to the shell.

Since the game asks you to go through a door that requires two people to open, you know what to do next.

After violently removing the thing from the egg with your alien ice cream scoop, blood spurts out.

They collect the only distinguishable piece, a severed arm, and use it to open the door while the remains are thrown into a garbage chute.

Before your next puzzle, grab Scorn’s first weapon.

As cool looking as it is useless, it’s a grappling hook with about the same range as grandma’s wifi.

The room is full of bloated fireflies spitting steam. They approach and use the grapple gun to free them from their grenades.

This is where the game’s blunt nature feels a little frustrating.

It’s hard to tell how far away you need to be from the bugs, although luckily the combat section doesn’t last long.

Scorn is equally disgusting, terrifying and mysterious. If you will excuse the pun, it really gets under your skin.

With its strong artistic direction and intriguing puzzles, it draws you into a world of unknown horrors.

William & Harry have a'forgotten' stepsister and she was at the Queen's funeral

Combat is the only questionable part, although it can improve depending on the arsenal.

Scorn will be released on October 21st exclusively for Microsoft on Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S.
