Sea of Thieves improves performance, fixes some bugs and prepares for a new Community Day

Today’s Sea of Thieves Update brought the newest limited adventure, The veiled depth, over. The update also includes some gameplay and balance changes, stability fixes and more ahead of the next Community Day this Saturday.

Saturday’s Community Day includes freebies, store discounts, and a variety of special bonuses for all players and Legends members. All players who log in that day will receive a special flag and a new emote, Wing Flap. There will be double gold and XP to be earned throughout the day and multiple events such as a community hashtag campaign on Twitter leading to a reputation multiplier upon achievement and Twitch Drops.

While that’s scheduled for Saturday, today’s update includes some gameplay and balance changes. Several recent events and spawns are now complete, including volcanic activity beneath Morror’s Peak and the Megalodons that arrived with The Shrouded Deep. Don’t worry though as the killer whale wreck appears to have been reclaimed by hordes of skeletons which you can find by looking for the designated ship cloud in the sky. Rebalanced are the Deep Sea Sirens, who will have a slightly longer pause before using their abilities to aid players. On the other hand, danger increases with groups, as more phantoms are added to the Haunted Islands as you bring larger crews.

While the update fixes a number of issues related to visual glitches that could cause players to get stuck in certain circumstances, there are also some advances in ongoing work to improve performance. Server performance and stability have received a few different improvements, including optimized floating items on water, various network improvements, and optimization of player inventories. Stability work should mean that players affected by a variety of crashing issues, crews being suddenly removed from a session, and sudden game termination should see these issues resolved.
