Sean Lock and the stars of Netflix’s Sex Education series were among the winners at the inaugural National Comedy Awards for Rise Against Cancer.
ost Tom Allen started the show with a special acknowledgment for “our brother in the comedy President Zelensky and the brave men of Ukraine”, which received a standing ovation.
The awards honor emerging and established comedy talent, with British public voting on key awards, plus two additional special recognition awards voted for by industry peers. .
Veteran comedian Harry Hill has delivered an emotional tribute to his late friend and comedian Sean Lock, who passed away from cancer last year.
Lock went on to win Outstanding Comedy Comedy Actor for 8/10 Cats Does Countdown, of which he was the captain.
Showrunner Katherine Ryan also won Outstanding Comedy Comedy Actress for 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
Netflix’s original Comedy Sex Education dominated the scripted categories, taking home four trophies.
Emma Mackey, Asa Butterfield and Ncuti Gatwa won Best Comedy Actress, Best Comedy Actor and Best Supporting Role, respectively.

The series itself won in the category of best comedy script.
Of two specifically recognized awards, Billy Connolly was awarded the Victoria Wood Lifetime Achievement Award and Sharon Horgan received the Caroline Aherne Distinguished Achievement Award in Writing.
Other winners include Ricky Gervais for best independent show, Taskmaster for best comedy entertainment, and Chris and Rosie Ramsey for best comedy podcast with Shagged, Married, Annoyed.
Munya Chawawa was also voted as the best breakout performer.
Accepting the award, he joked: “There was a time when I really believed my future would be touring the small northern towns as an act of JLS tribute.
“Thanks to this award, that won’t happen for at least another five years.”
