A SECOND man has been arrested in the investigation into the murder of Ashling Murphy.
23 years old, a talented musician, murdered as she jogged on the banks of the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly, last Wednesday.
A father of three, who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of Ashling’s murder, also remains in custody at the garden.
He was raised after the last spend five nights at the Dublin hospital.
A second man, in his 30s, is being asked “about the possibility of withholding information.”
A garda spokesman said: “Gardai is investigating the fatal attack on Ashling Murphy that occurred around 4pm on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, along the canal in Cappincur, Tullamore, County Offaly continues to question a man in his 30s who was arrested yesterday, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 on suspicion of murder.
“The detention of the man at Tullamore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 continued this afternoon.
“A Garda Síochána has arrested a second man, 30 years old, in connection with this investigation.
“This man was detained at Garda Station in the East Division under Section 30 Crimes Against the State Act 1939 as amended, and questioned regarding the possibility of withholding information contrary to the law. Crimes Against the State (Amendment) Act 1998.
“A Garda Siochana has no further comment at this time.”
